Searoo is a new community for local venue search and reviews. It’s currently in alpha testing phase and is welcoming testers to help build up its database.
With searoo you can write a review for just about any venue, which will also be marked on a Google map. Indicate your star rating, add tag words, and say whether or not you would recommend this venue to others. You can also search for venues based on keyword or location. Reviews can also be sent to friends, or added to your favorites. Another helpful feature of Searoo is the ability to leave questions for the community, which can be answered by other members at any time. Questions are displayed in the Q&A section based on their proximity to you, which could be helpful, but may keep things too local, which could be a hindrance for searoo, as its database has a lot of growing to do.
There are a lot of bugs yet to be worked out for searoo, and it faces tough competition from other sites like Yelp or even Yahoo Answers. Including a level of mobile integration, incorporating the ability to add photos to reviews, and some RSS subscription options for reviews, users and the Q&A section would help build this service out. A site that has recently launched a restaurant review site with the same basics as Searoo is Foodio54, while TownKings and Uncover have launched local search and review sites as well.
