I don't think that reading can become fashion and I am suspicious of all reading behaviours that can become fashion. Reading belongs to one's spiritual life, which must be individualistic. What can become fashion is not reading but buying books and talking about books. That is to say, influenced by the mass media, a book may become salable in a specific period. It may lead to the situation in which  talking about the salable books is fashionable and not saying anything about it  is outdated.

In our life, we can enjoy different kinds of things and reading is one of them. The happiness rests in, firstly, satisfying the desire of knowledge；secondarily, communicating with the souls from the book;thirdly，enriching and developing our own spiritual life.                            

However, if you want to enjoy the happiness of reading, you must free yourself from taking  material gain into consideration and be in calm mind.

There are many great minds in history, and they have an unknown identity sheltering behind their well-known reputation, which is called lifelong readers.It means that they read  books in their life.                                      4

Strictly speaking, to love reading and to read well are not the same. Someone who has no taste in reading is far from loving reading. Taste is a kind of standar  which you use to  have profound reflections on the world and your life  understanding one's mental life. The really good books in the world contain this function instead of merely providing information or entertainment.

the actively intelligent youth are not born actively intelligent. They need encouragement which can be attained from reading those good books that can make them happy intellectively and mentally. Finally, in order to be actively intelligent, he is led into world of intelligence as a whole.

There is no a period in which there are so many publications like today；however, it is likely that nowadays people read the fewest books. In such era, only when one  knows how to reject and exclude, can he know the real meaning of reading.

Classic belongs to everyone, but it never belongs to the masses. Only when one is an individual person instead of a common person without personality, can he belong to classic.

The differences between books and TV programmers are:  

Firstly, books have the written feature of  tradition and reading books can help people understand this tradition, While TV programs focus on time and watching TV makes people  only live in the present.

Secondarily, words are abstract symbols.We need to combine reading with thinking to understand it. Otherwise,you can not understand the real meaning of the words. On the contrary, TV programmers influence the audience with images. They abstain thinking, because thinking hinders watching.

Conclusion: Books make people become civilized and TV programmes make people become barbarous.

The mood of reading changes because of different time and different places. It is proper to read some books when you are traveling, when you have nothing to do and when you are  lonely for  being far from home. At this moment, you will think that although your real relatives is not beside you, you can communicate with those in the books. There must be a kind of relation between soul and soul, which  surpasses the differences of  ethnicity  and culture, life  and death. when you meet with the soul who share the similarities with you ,your mind can recognize it instinctively .
