On the “best day of their lives”, celebrity brides dress to impress, in elaborate and expensive gowns most of us could never even dream of wearing. The gowns seem to be getting a little more conservative these days, most having short or long sleeves, and lots of lace. These celebrity wedding dresses are just a sample of what stars are wearing as they walk down the aisle, in no particular order.
Katherine Heigl
Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley were married on December 23, 2007, in Deer Valley, Utah. As she walked down the aisle, Katherine wore Oscar de la Renta. Of the dress, she says,
“It’s very fitted and is the silhouette I always tend to do on the red carpet because it suits my particular body shape. It’s classic and elegant but also modern.I did a ’50s short-hat veil that came to my cheekbones. I am so thrilled. It’s so sad you only get to wear it for one day!”
Gwen Stefani
Gwen Stefani wed Gavin Rossdale on September 14, 2002 in London. The rocker bride wore a custom-made pink and white wedding dress by John Galliano for Dior. She topped it off with an antique lace veil. I would expect nothing less unique from Gwen, and she pulled off the dress quite well.

Eva Longoria
Eva Longoria and Tony Parker chose the lucky 7/7/07 to tie the knot in Paris. And the bride went all out, wearing “a couture Angel Sanchez mermaid gown made of silk wool, with silk gazar metallic embroidery, a scoop back and a long train.” The dress was so hyped, sketches were released before the wedding.
Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise had the wedding of the year in Italy in November 2006, and Katie was so excited that she chose a dress before the date was even set. The entire wedding was decked out with Armani, with Katie’s dress described as “an off-the-shoulder Armani gown with an ivory silk train adorned in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery. She accessorized her gown with an ivory tulle floor-length veil and ivory silk shoes.” Designer Armani said of the gown,
“Katie wanted a simple, elegant dress that was rich in material with a slim silhouette. I couldn’t have been more in agreement. I wanted to make it modern but at the same time, complement the sweetness and energy she conveys.”
Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman’ s wedding dress was named the best of the century in 2006 (the century was only six years in at the time) by Conde Nast Brides. When she married Keith Urban on June 25, 2006, she was wearing “a simple, romantic, ivory-colored tulle wedding dress designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga. The gown had ’softly pleated Empire-style sleeves, Cornelli lacework.’”
Jennifer Garner
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck were married in the Caribbean. Four-months pregnant at the time, Jennifer wore a Vera Wang empire waist wedding dress with a teal sash.
Jennifer Lopez
On June 5, 2004, Jennifer Lopez wed Marc Anthony in a stunning cream gown. She wore a dress from the 2005 Vera Wang collection and carried a white umbrella down the aisle.
Christina Aguilera
Controversial singer Christina Aguilera surprised everyone when she married Jordan Bratman on November 19, 2005, in a traditional ceremony with a classically styled gown. The sweeping, flamenco-style dress was designed by Christian Lacroix.
Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne and Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley were married in July 2006 in Montecito, California. Avril wore a long Vera Wang dress with a flowing train and a long white veil, though she had wrestled with the decision before making her final choice,
“I wanted to be like, ‘Oh, let’s totally have a rock ‘n’ roll, goth wedding.’ But at the same time I was like, ‘I’ve been dreaming about my wedding day since I was a little girl. I have to wear the white dress.’ I wanted to be a princess, okay? People thought I would have done, like, some black wedding dress, and yeah, I would have. But at the same time I was thinking about our pictures. I didn’t want to be, like, 20 years later, ‘Oh, why did I wear my hair like that? It’s not cool now.’”
Kate Walsh
On September 1, 2007, Kate Walsh married Alex Young in Ojai, California after just four months together. Kate’s gown was custom made by Monique Lhuillier, and beautiful bride opted for sleeves, unlike most girls these days.
