原文: Organic Baby Food Gluten Free Recipe of the Month: Summer Fruit with Nut Cream or Fruit Puree

Recipes for the staple gluten free grains such buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth, and millet have already been featured and summertime is the perfect time to highlight another of nature’s gluten free foods- fresh fruit.

Fresh fruit is abundant this time of year, and farmer’s markets can provide a great deal on some local, organic faire. Blueberries, blackberries, cherries, and raspberries are loaded with antioxidants and fiber, not to mention delicious. Apricots, peaches, cantaloupe, and nectarines all provide excellent amounts of vitamin A and potassium; while plums are a great source of lutein which is good for maintaining healthy vision.

Should all fruit be organic?
Choosing organic foods provide a wealth of health benefits for your family as well as helping organic baby food, baby developmentthe environment. Organic can sometimes be more expensive, but by taking advantage of what is currently in season often lowers the cost. Some of the sensitive or fragile fruits like berries and peaches contain the highest amount of chemicals than most other foods on the markets. The Environment Working Group (EWG), through stringent testing, ranked produce from the highest amount of chemicals to the lowest.  A shopping guide can be printed from the EWG website featuring the “Dirty Dozen”, the group of foods that is best to choose organic. 

Nut Cream for Summer Fruit
This recipe was created by Mum Mum’s own dietitian and makes the perfect topping for fresh fruit, adding a little more nutrient density. This recipe is gluten free, dairy free, and free of eggs, but please use caution if your child has a nut allergy.

½ Cup raw cashews
2 ½ tablespoons pure maple syrup
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Pinch of sea salt
Water

Grind cashews into a fine powder using a blender or food processor. Add maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. With the blender running, add small amounts of water in intervals until a thick, creamy consistency is reached. Serve a dollop over fruit and voila!

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Yield: Tops 4 servings of fruit

Fruit Sauce
Have a nut allergy in the house? This easy fruit puree is another gluten free and allergen free alternative and tasty way to use up fresh fruit. This fruit puree can be used on cereal, buckwheat pancakes, in yogurt, or even as a homemade baby food. The original recipe is from Feeding the Whole Family by Cynthia Lair.

2 cups berries, cherries (pitted), plums, or pears
2-4 tablespoons of water or juice

Cut fruit into smalls chunks, place into a pot with water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, until fruit in tender and water is absorbed (about 15 minutes). Puree in a blender or mash with a potato masher.

Prep Time: 20 minutes
Yield: 1 cup

  用一撮海盐水兑腰果后,使用搅拌器或者食物加工器将之研磨成细粉。加上糖枫汁、香草和盐。在搅拌器工作过程中,在间隙的时候加入少些水,直到达到了黏稠、软滑的效果。在水果上浇上一勺,瞧,做好了!

  如果家里有对坚果过敏的人,怎么办呢?这份简易的水果泥除了不含麸质外还可以用别的水果代替,而且是个用完新鲜水果的美味窍门。这份水果泥可以用在麦片粥、荞麦饼、酸奶或者自家制的婴儿食物上。这份食谱源于Cynthia Lair写的《养活一家人》一书里。
2杯浆果、樱桃(去核)、李子或者梨
2—4大汤匙的水或者将切好的水果压成小块,放进一个罐子里头,放些水进去。
  煮至沸腾,接着调低至小火,慢慢炖,盖上盖子直到水果变软,吸干所有水(约要15分钟)。用搅拌器或土豆捣碎器将水果搅拌成泥。
