Back in April we saw the launch of Ballhype and dubbed it 'social media sports done right' and now the founders of the site aim to replicated the success of that site with a new project called Showhype.
Over the months since its launch, Ballhype has seen a healthy average month-over-month growth rate of 50% because unlike other socially driven sites that simply add the sports category to an existing model, Ballhype was built specifically with a sports-loving audience in mind. Just like its sports-focused counterpart, ShowHype is mashup between a socially driven news site (like Digg) and a meme-tracker (like Techmeme), but with a strict focus on entertainment and celebrity news.
When I learned that Team Ballhype had been working on this site, my expectations were naturally high based on their previous work. Unlike Ballhype, however, Showhype is not as customized an experience as you would expect, and with the exception of a few small differences, the site joins the ranks of many other incredibly similar sites, such as Sk-rt, and Lipstick. In fact, and based on the current, early build of Showhype, I would recommend holding out for Hey! Nielsen instead, for a much more comprehensive entertainment and celebrity news and reviews experience.
