Artbreak is a new community for artists to share and sell their artwork.
The premise behind Artbreak is to offer an online gallery to show your work, and sell it to buyers. Upload images of your work, and network with others in the community. What’s nice is the profile page, which displays users’ artwork in a large slide show. You can add users as friends, send them private messages, and add individual works to your favorites list. You can also vote on individual works, which looks to be a way to promote art to the home page in some capacity. There’s the ability to leave compliments (comments) for artwork, and share it with friends via email or using the URL.
Buying and selling artwork is another story. There doesn’t seem to be any integration with a shopping checkout or PayPal service of any kind. When I tested out how the purchasing system worked, I believe I agreed to buy an oil painting simply by clicking the checkout button and entering my address. No payment information is requested at all. You can return to your account in order to access your purchases, which shows the artwork I agreed to buy, along with a message board for dialog between the buyer and seller. Unfortunately there’s no way to actually leave a message in this dialog box, and the entire process also means that only registered Artbreak users are able to purchase items on the site. Hopefully this can all be chalked up to the site’s beta status.
