Okay, we don’t have a totally Green House here at the Aldrich Homestead, but Tree Hugging Family’s countdown to Earth Day has me thinking a bit about our home.
While no one would accuse Bald Man and me of being granola, we have made quite a few changes around our home to try and have a less horrible impact on the Earth! I thought I’d share a few things that we’ve changed around our house in the last year or so:
Started a vegetable garden (using no pesticides) Started a compost pile for the vegetable garden Switched to mostly energy-efficient lightbulbs Purchased reusable grocery bags and use them everywhere! Planted a tree in the front yard. Hang-dry the clothes. (Okay, that was because the dryer broke, but still. :P ) Purchasing some more earth-friendly cleaners Making more bread on my own (less plastic bags around) Purchasing more foods from the local street market (organic foods, no pesticides) More diligent about recycling everything possible (and the kids love to help!) Mow less (that was Bald Man’s contribution, much to the neighbor’s dismay :P) Driving less (Not intentionally driving less, but we seem to be doing it) Buying less in general Not showering as often (also Bald Man’s. He’s in a silly mood tonight.) So, we’re clearly not the eco-friendly poster-children yet, but we’re enjoying the changes that we’re making together, and excited to teach the kids as we learn. And while the changes that we’ve made aren’t any that have hugely changed our life, they were things that we’ve had to agree to (some really effect the budget) and choose to do together.

采用自然晾干衣物的方法（好吧，那是因为干衣机坏了才这么做的，但是哪怕没坏，也要这么做：P）
购买一些对于地球更加友好的清洁剂（负面影响小）
自己多做些面包（这样就会少很多塑料包装袋了）
多从当地的街边市场里购买食品（要买有机食物，而不是用了杀虫剂的）
对于回收一切可能的事物，请勤劳一些（孩子们会很乐意帮忙的！）
少割草（这是Bald Man的贡献，但是对于邻居而言就很令人沮丧了：p）
少开车（并不是故意的要少开，但看起来我们的确在这么做着）
总体来说，少买些东西
别向往常那样洗澡洗的那么勤（这也是Bald Man的主意，他今天晚上有点傻傻的）
自然，我们很明显不是宣传生态友好的那些海报张贴儿童，但是我们的确很享受我们一起做出的这些改变，像我们自己学习时一样，我们教孩子这些时也很兴奋。尽管我们所做的改变不会让我们的生活发生巨变，但这些改变是我们同意的（有时真的影响到了预算）并且一起做出的选择。
