她站在台上，不时不规律地挥舞着自己的双手；仰着头，脖子伸得好长好长，与她尖尖的下巴扯成一条直线；她的嘴张着，眼睛眯成一条线；偶尔她口中会咿咿唔唔的，不知在说些什么。基本上她是一个不会说话的人。她叫黄美廉，一个自小就患脑性麻痹的病人。脑性麻痹夺去了她肢体的平衡感，也夺走了她发声讲话的能力。从小她就活在诸多肢体不便及众多异样的眼光中，然而她没有让这些外在的痛苦击败她内在奋斗的精神，她昂然奋斗，迎向一切的不可能，终于获得了加州大学艺术博士学位，她用她的手当画笔，以色彩告诉人“寰宇之力与美”，并且灿烂地活出生命的色彩。全场的学生都被她不能控制自如的身体震慑住了，这是一场倾倒生命，与生命相遇的演讲会。
一个学生问“请问黄博士，你从小就长成这个样子，请问你怎么看自己？你从来都没有怨恨吗？”
“我怎么看自己”美廉用粉笔在黑板上重重地写下这几个字，然后回头看着发问的同学，嫣然一笑，回过头来，在黑板上龙飞凤舞地写了起来：
一 我好可爱！
二 我的腿很长很美！
三 爸爸妈妈这么爱我！
四 上帝这么喜欢我！
五 我会画画，我会写稿！
六 我有只可爱的猫！
七 还有……
忽然，教室内鸦雀无声，没有人敢讲话。她回过头来定定的看着大家，再回过头，在黑板上写下了她的结论：“我只看我所有的，不看我所没有的”。
