原文: Around Shanghai: The ayi-stepmother, dirty water dispensers and 'sextortion'

This unusual lawsuit caught our attention in the Shanghai Daily:
·The children of a notable local professor, Dr Kuang Ankun, said to be "one of the founders of China's incretology research into adrenal disorders like diabetes and thyroid problems", who passed away in 1992 have sued their young stepmother, who they earlier hired to be their father's domestic helper, over an inheritance.

·A random test conducted by the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision in the Jing'an District found that one in five water dispensing machines had bacteria levels above the allowable standard because most offices don't clean their water machines regularly.

·A pair of siblings have been jailed for extorting 57,500 yuan (US$8,099) from a foreigner after offering sex services to him through a prostitute.

·A driver of a boat transporting sand was killed two days ago on Shanghai's Suzhou Creek when his boat collided into a bridge

    《上海日报》上的这则不寻常的案件引起了不少关注。邝安堃教授,我国内分泌学的奠基人之一,致力于肾上腺疾病(如糖尿病)和甲状腺疾病的研究。他的晚年生活由一位年轻的保姆照顾,两人日久生情,最后步入了婚姻的殿堂。1992年,邝教授与世长辞,然而他的儿女却因为遗产关系一纸诉状将其继母告上了法庭。

    由上海市静安区质量技术监督局进行的抽样调查显示,有20%的净水器细菌超标,其主要原因是人们没有进行常规的清洗。

    兄妹俩以介绍外国人色情服务为诱饵,对其敲诈勒索57500人民币,折合美元8099。这对兄妹现已被监禁。
